THE SLOW FIX FROM A WOODLAND DWELLING

BA(Hons) Art and Design Practice

ARTIST STATEMENT

When I am not sketching, reading, slow hand stitching , staring out of the window or walking the woods , I'm usually supporting others to greater wellbeing through creativity             (See  Portfolio.)

Currently studying for a Masters Degree in Illustration with Falmouth University , I illustrate for children's author Jenny Sanders and have work featured in Raw Lit online magazine. My place specific postcards are also available at Tubestation Cafe, Polzeath.

Future plans involve a mobile art van . One day I shall embark upon a    travel  journal adventure in the long-awaited van, hopefully before I’m sixty!

Creative Support Client Testimonials

'It has been lovely to be outside, getting creative and to empty my mind of other things, especially when I have not been well.

Enjoyed the one to one company again.  Not too much peopling, I couldn't cope'

'Been very ill this last couple of weeks, still not brilliant, but have so enjoyed this session.  Who knew working with Charcoal was such fun.'

September 2020

'Amanda got me confident just drawing any bird from imagination.  Which went onto become something I liked'

October 2020

'During Lockdown, I did some art zoom classes lead by Amanda Young.  It was something positive to focus on, and look forward to at the weekend during lockdown in the winter months.  It was great fun and another way to connect without seeing someone in person.  The art was like therapy and very stress relieving after working from home a lot.  I learnt new multimedia techniques, and I have become more creatively confident.  The new skills were good, as I recycled materials by using stuff I already had at no extra cost using what I had in the house during lockdown.  Amanda would ask regularly how I was getting on, but would also give space for thought and processing whilst I worked.  She would make suggestions on what I could add or take away.'

'I feel relaxed and have achieved something'

October 2020

'Amanda showed me how to source papers and images suitable for collage, this was a new technique that was fun to do and had varied results.  It was interesting to see what worked and what didn't, and I learnt to observe how different colour schemes and shapes could work together.'

January 2021

'Amanda was clear on how to use various pencils and get different effects.  After some practice it was very easy to make progress. This is encouraging as you can see you have gained an understanding and been successful with the medium.  Even in a very short space of time.

The fact that I could make progress means I am keen to keep developing my skills. It was a positive and very enjoyable session and I look forward to using more mediums and techniques'.
